Please Sir, Can We Read Some More?

We were delighted to hold the first play reading of the season at One More Chapter in Radcliffe-on-Trent, and a very special thank you goes to owner Charlotte King for so kindly allowing us to use this lovely venue for the evening. It proved a wonderfully atmospheric setting for Dickens’ famous tale.

Jeremy Brock’s adaptation gives us a rather different Oliver Twist from the version many of us know best. It’s darker in places, with a different feel and emphasis, but in many ways that made it all the more interesting to explore together. There was plenty to talk about afterwards, and the verdict from the room was a very positive one – a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a fascinating play to read aloud.

And this reading had a little extra significance…

Oliver Twist will be one of our own productions next November, directed by Debbie, so tonight gave us an early glimpse of the play before work on the full production begins.

There’s a long way to go before curtain up, but after tonight we’re already looking forward to seeing how Debbie and the cast bring Brock’s darker take on Dickens’ classic to life on the Grange Hall stage.
