Synopsis
The action takes place within 48 hours and takes place in Susan's
garden and beyond.
There will be an interval of 15
Minutes between the 2 acts
Susan the central
character spends her days ministering to her husband - a man devoted
only to his life's work and his widowed sister. Meanwhile her
vitality is directed into a superior world peopled with an idealised
family who fill the dark and widening void in her own life.
Throughout the play, we hear what she hears and see what she sees.
It is a subjective viewpoint therefore, and one that may at times be
some what less than accurate. This family are initially her
salvation but ultimately...............................
Ayckbourn has created a daring and heart-breakingly funny way of
illustrating mental illness and the emotional turmoil it causes. One
in three people suffer from mental illness at some time in their
lives, so whilst the play may seem at times to be fantastic we
should not dismiss it as a mere fantasy. |
